Ever thought —
Why we have this never ending desire to live when we experience too much pain and struggles in our life?
When we find ourselves in difficult and unbearable situations, what is the first thing that comes to mind?
Isn’t it that we wish to find a way to end our miseries as a survival mechanism, initially we don’t wish to end our life to end those miseries…
Even if thoughts of ending our life do cross our mind at some point, why are we here now, me writing and you reading this? We’ve somehow survived, right?
Those were just thoughts, a way for our minds to seek relief from the heavy burden of pain. When we can no longer bear it, we naturally look for ways to alleviate it.
As a psychology student who keeps learning about the human thought process, my teacher recently taught me that
“we are not our thoughts and that negative thoughts can be changed.
Even thoughts of giving up on our life are simply our mind’s way of trying to protect us from the overwhelming pain and hopelessness.”
We might still reflect on our struggles and question ourselves and the universe with the inevitable, “Why live when there is so much pain?” All we need to do is to seek a reason, a hope to hold on to when things get harder.
In the intricate tapestry of life, it’s often the smallest threads that create the most vivid and meaningful patterns. Amidst all the hardships and pain we face, it’s the ability to see beauty in the little things that gives us a reason to keep living. This practice, simple yet profound, has become essential for me, providing solace and strength during moments of despair.
Every morning, as the first light of dawn gently wakes the world, I find beauty in watching the sunrise. The sky, adorned in hues of pink and orange, seems to whisper a quiet promise of hope and renewal. This daily event reminds me that no matter how dark the night, a new day always begins, bringing fresh opportunities and experiences.
I find beauty in the laughter of a child, so pure and unburdened by the complexities of life. Their giggles are a reminder of innocence and joy, contrasting sharply with the responsibilities of adulthood.
The rustling of leaves in the wind, the scent of rain on dry earth, the warmth of a loved one’s embrace — these are the small things that ground me. They gently remind me that life, despite its challenges, is filled with moments of profound beauty and connection.
In times of hardship, it’s easy to be consumed by pain and feel overwhelmed by the world’s weight. In these moments, I consciously shift my focus to the small joys around me.
Seeing beauty in little things has taught me to appreciate the present moment. This perspective has become a powerful tool for resilience, helping me navigate life’s storms with grace and hope.
Life is not defined solely by our struggles, but by our capacity to discover light in the darkness.
No matter how harsh the world can be, it is also incredibly beautiful, making it worth living to experience all its wonders.
Each moment of beauty, no matter how small, is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and our endless capacity for joy. So, even amidst hardships and pain, I find reasons to keep living. I see them in the sunrises, the laughter, the rustling leaves, and the warmth of love.
These little things, often overlooked, are the essence of life.
